My Story

I first learned to play 25 Irish when I was eight years old, sitting at my grandparents' kitchen table in County Cork. My grandmother, a legendary player in our village, would deal the cards with practiced ease while my grandfather offered running commentary on every play. Those evenings filled with laughter, friendly arguments over trump cards, and the satisfying snap of cards on the wooden table planted a seed that would grow into a lifelong passion.

What started as a way to connect with family became an obsession. By my teenage years, I was playing in local tournaments, studying the game's history, and learning regional variations from players across Ireland. I discovered that 25 Irish wasn't just a card game—it was a living tradition, a social glue that held communities together, and a piece of Irish culture that deserved to be preserved and shared.

Now, over 20 years later, I've dedicated my life to ensuring that future generations can experience the joy and connection that 25 Irish brings. Through teaching, writing, and technology, I'm working to make this incredible game accessible to anyone who wants to learn.

Why I Do This

When I started teaching 25 Irish seriously about 15 years ago, I noticed a troubling trend. Many young people in Ireland had never heard of the game their grandparents loved. The oral tradition of passing down the game was breaking down as families became more dispersed and digital entertainment dominated free time.

I realized that without intervention, 25 Irish could fade away within a generation or two. This wasn't just about preserving a card game—it was about maintaining a connection to Irish heritage, keeping alive the social traditions that brought communities together, and ensuring that future generations could experience the joy and mental challenge that the game provides.

My mission became clear: make 25 Irish accessible to anyone who wants to learn, regardless of whether they have Irish roots or access to experienced players. By creating structured learning materials, modern practice tools, and personalized instruction, I'm building a bridge between the traditional and the contemporary.

My Teaching Philosophy

Respect the Tradition

25 Irish has been played for centuries. I honor the traditional rules and the cultural context while making the game accessible to modern learners.

Focus on Understanding

I don't just teach rules—I explain the "why" behind every strategy. Understanding the reasoning makes you a better player than memorizing patterns.

Use Modern Tools

Technology can enhance traditional learning. The app provides practice opportunities that weren't possible before, accelerating skill development.

Meet You Where You Are

Whether you're a complete beginner or tournament-ready, I tailor instruction to your current level and goals. Everyone's learning journey is unique.

What I've Built

A complete learning ecosystem for 25 Irish players at every level

Beyond the Game

When I'm not teaching or playing 25 Irish, you'll find me researching game history in local archives, attending traditional music sessions (where card games often break out during breaks), or organizing community game nights to bring players together.

I'm based between County Cork and Dublin, which allows me to stay connected to both the traditional heartland of the game and Ireland's modern gaming community. I regularly collaborate with cultural organizations to promote Irish card games at festivals and heritage events.

The most rewarding part of this work isn't the tournament victories or book sales—it's receiving messages from students who've successfully taught their own children or grandchildren to play. Every new generation of players means the tradition lives on.
